Number of instalments for direct debit

The number of instalments for collection depends on the amount of your assessment and the time you apply for direct debit.

How it works

If you apply for direct debit within three weeks of receiving the assessment, we will debit the assessed amount from your account in a maximum of ten monthly instalments. If the amount is less than € 10 per instalment, we will debit the total amount in fewer instalments.

If you request direct debit later, there will be fewer months left to deduct the amounts. The monthly amount will then be higher.

For example:

At the end of January, you will receive a water board tax bill for €161.68. You request direct debit within three weeks. We will then debit the first installment in February and the last installment in November. This amounts to a total of ten monthly instalments.

If you request direct debit one month later (March in this example), we will debit the first installment in March. The last installment will be debited in November. This amounts to a total of nine instalments. In this case, the monthly amount will be slightly higher, because we will divide the tax assessment amount over nine instalments instead of ten.

If you request direct debit shortly after receiving your tax assessment, you can be sure that you will pay instalments water board tax in a maximum of ten monthly instalments .

Can I pay the tax assessment with iDEAL if I have a payment arrangement via direct debit?

Yes. As soon as we have received and processed your payment via iDEAL, the direct debit deductions for this assessment will stop. The authorisation will, however, remain valid. Therefore, future assessments will again be collected in instalments.

I have sold my house, but you are still debiting money from my account.

If you sell your house during the year, this will not affect the amount of tax you owe. The situation on January 1 determines the amount for the entire year. This year, you will therefore pay tax on the property you owned on January 1.

However, the tax amount is usually settled by the notary with the buyer. The buyer pays a proportionate share. You can find this on the settlement statement you receive at the time of transfer. You then pay the total tax amount to us.

If you use direct debit, the monthly payments will usually continue into the following year. This is because we only impose the tax assessment during the course of the year and we want to give you time to pay the amount.

If you no longer wish to use direct debit, you must withdraw your authorisation. You can easily do this via mijnhhnk.nl. You will then need to transfer the remaining amount in one go.
