Climate Active Noorderkwartier subsidy

Municipal spatial adaptation projects may be eligible for subsidies. To this end, we have opened up the Climate Active Noorderkwartier (KAN) Subsidy Regulation.

Projects that make the living environment more climate-proof can receive a subsidy of up to 30% of the project costs. The scheme is intended to accelerate the implementation of these projects.

Implementation agendas

In 2020 and 2021, all municipalities in Hollands Noorderkwartier drew up Implementation Agendas. These Implementation Agendas set out the initial measures that will be taken in the coming years to make the living environment more climate-proof. To contribute to this, HHNK established the Climate Active Noorderkwartier Subsidy Regulation in 2022.

Eligible measures

The subsidy is intended for municipal projects that contribute to climate adaptation by implementing physical measures, strengthen the core tasks of HHNK, and relate to at least one of the following themes:

  • the retention, infiltration, and storage of water;
  • a robust water supply and/or drainage system;
  • relieving the water chain and
  • limiting the consequences of flooding through spatial planning.

This includes, among other things:

  • restructuring of neighborhoods, whereby substantially more water is retained in public spaces through, for example, wadis and water-retaining roads;
  • modifications to waterways, culverts, and weirs to improve water supply and/or drainage;
  • or measures from, for example, Operation Steenbreek, which give water and greenery more space.

The subsidy is not intended for physical implementation measures in the development of new buildings.

Non-eligible costs

Costs that are not eligible for subsidy are:

  • preparation costs;
  • costs for the construction of sewerage or a separate drainage system for rainwater and sewage.

Application procedure

A total amount of €2 million is available for the scheme. The scheme will run from 2022 until the end of 2026, with several application periods. The third and final application period was from February 1 to May 31, 2024.

Determination

Once the measures have been implemented and the project has been completed, an application for approval must be submitted. The form below has been drawn up for this purpose. The form must be accompanied by a photo report, publicity materials, a cost overview, and the official report of completion. For other obligations, see Article 15 of the subsidy regulation. The application for approval is submitted via KANsubsidie@hhnk.nl.

Third and final opening

The third and final call for proposals took place in 2024. We awarded grants to twelve projects in twelve municipalities.

Second opening

In 2023, we awarded grants to six projects in six different municipalities.

First opening

The first opening took place at the end of 2022. We have awarded grants to eight projects in seven municipalities.
