Municipality of Purmerend: Rehabilitation of Overwhere-Zuid and Wheermolen-Oost

We have granted the Purmerend municipality €100,000 subsidy for the climate-proof redevelopment of Overwhere-Zuid and Wheermolen-Oost. These are two of the eight projects to which HHNK has granted subsidies from the KAN scheme.

Through this Klimaat Actief Noorderkwartier grant regulation, municipalities can receive up to 30% subsidy of project costs for projects that make the living environment more climate-proof. The scheme is designed to accelerate the implementation of these projects. On March 9, Hoogheemraad Klazien Hartog symbolically handed over this amount to Alderman Pascal Verkroost of the Purmerend municipality.

Rainwater drainage

Alderman Verkroost of Purmerend municipality: "I am pleased that in Purmerend we are taking nice steps towards a climate-proof and water-robust living environment. Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier is an important partner in this. Partly due to the KAN subsidy, we can get to work on two projects in Overwhere-Zuid and Wheermolen-Oost."

Water buffers

In Overwhere-South, the ground-level landscaping will be climate-proofed. Green water buffers will be installed, an additional culvert will be constructed and permeable paving will be applied. Water drainage will also be improved by adjustments to the water system. The total cost of the project amounts to over € 240,000. HHNK will contribute € 72,500 to this. Overwhere-Zuid will start mid-March 2023 and will be completed by the end of 2024. The Henri Dunantstraat in Wheermolen-Oost will also be redesigned. In the restructuring of the ground level, a water storage road will be realized with a climate adaptive system for stormwater drainage. The total cost of the measures is over €140,000 of which €27,500 will be financed from the KAN scheme.
