Municipality of Purmerend: Redevelopment of Overwhere-Zuid and Wheermolen-Oost
We have awarded the municipality of Purmerend a €100,000 subsidy for the climate-proof redevelopment of Overwhere-Zuid and Wheermolen-Oost. These are two of the eight projects to which HHNK has awarded subsidies from the KAN scheme.
Through this Climate Active Noorderkwartier subsidy regulation, municipalities can receive up to 30% of the project costs as a subsidy for projects that make the living environment more climate-proof. The scheme is intended to accelerate the implementation of these projects. On March 9, water board member Klazien Hartog symbolically handed over this amount to alderman Pascal Verkroost of the municipality of Purmerend.
Rainwater drainage
Alderman Verkroost of the municipality of Purmerend: “I am pleased that we are making great strides in Purmerend toward a climate-proof and water-robust living environment. The Hollands Noorderkwartier Water Authority is an important partner in this. Thanks in part to the KAN subsidy, we can get started on two projects in Overwhere-Zuid and Wheermolen-Oost.”
Water buffers
In Overwhere-Zuid, the ground level layout is being redesigned to be climate-proof. Green water buffers are being installed, an additional culvert is being constructed, and water-permeable paving is being used. Water drainage is also being improved through modifications to the water system. The total cost of the project is over €240,000, of which HHNK is contributing €72,500. Overwhere-Zuid will start in mid-March 2023 and be completed by the end of 2024. Henri Dunantstraat in Wheermolen-Oost will also be redesigned. The restructuring of the ground level will include the construction of a water-retaining road with a climate-adaptive system for rainwater drainage. The total cost of the measures is more than €140,000, of which €27,500 will be financed by the KAN scheme.
