Municipality of Hoorn: Opportunities for the Kersenboogerd, areas 1, 2, and 6

We have awarded the municipality of Hoorn a €100,000 subsidy for the climate-proof redevelopment of the Kersenboogerd center area. This is one of six projects to which HHNK has awarded subsidies from the KAN scheme.

Through this Climate Active Noorderkwartier subsidy regulation, municipalities can receive subsidies for projects that make the living environment more climate-proof, up to 30% of the project costs. The scheme is intended to accelerate the implementation of these projects. On August 31, 2023, water board member Klazien Hartog symbolically handed over this amount to alderman Karin Hakhoff of the municipality of Hoorn.

More attractive, safer, and future-proof

Alderman Karin Hakhoff: “Together with residents, we are making the center of Kersenboogerd more attractive, safer, and future-proof. We are doing this as part of the programme for Kersenboogerd programme . I am very pleased that, partly thanks to this subsidy, we are able to create climate-proof neighborhoods there.”

Less paving and more greenery

The subsidy is intended for climate adaptation measures in the redevelopment of public spaces in neighbourhood , Pergola, Prieel, neighbourhood , Messing, Stijl, neighbourhood , Lijster, Ekster, and Palissade neighbourhood . Measures are being implemented here to limit flooding.

With less paving and tiles, there is more space for plants and shrubs. This allows rainwater to be collected more effectively. Planted depressions, known as wadis, also contribute to this. They collect and purify rainwater, after which the water infiltrates the subsoil. And the roads are designed in a V-shape. This keeps the rainwater on the street longer instead of draining it directly into the sewer.
