Municipality of Heemskerk: Water storage Heemskerk Water Gardens
We granted € 75,000 subsidy to the municipality of Heemskerk for the construction of the Kleine Houtweg water storage area, which has been named Heemskerk Water Gardens. This is one of the eight projects that HHNK is subsidizing from the KAN scheme.
Through this Klimaat Actief Noorderkwartier grant regulation, municipalities can receive up to 30% subsidy of project costs for projects that make the living environment more climate-proof. The scheme is intended to accelerate the implementation of these projects. On Feb. 21, high water board member Klazien Hartog symbolically handed over this amount to Alderman Ani Zalinyan of the municipality of Heemskerk.
Flooding
Alderman Ani Zalinyan: "We are very happy with this contribution from HHNK. The aim of the De Watertuinen project is to reduce the water nuisance in the horticultural area caused by heavy rainfall. We combine the construction of this climate-proof water storage with the design of a beautiful nature area, where you can enjoy walking and recreation. We are also strengthening biodiversity by planting plenty of native plants and shrubs. The Water Gardens will truly become an enrichment of Heemskerk."
Water gardens
The work includes digging a water storage area with shallow pools of water, installing new weirs, installing pipes for drainage, planting new trees and plants, and increasing recreational opportunities through walking paths, play elements and benches. The project will be completed in the spring. The total cost of the project is €350,000, of which HHNK is contributing €75,000 from the KAN grant scheme.
