Municipality of Purmerend: Overwhere-Zuid Subplan A6-2
We have awarded the municipality of Purmerend a subsidy of €30,041.56 for climate adaptation measures in the Overwhere-Zuid Subplan A6-2 project. This is one of six projects to which HHNK has awarded subsidies under the KAN scheme.
Through this Climate Active Noorderkwartier subsidy regulation, municipalities can receive subsidies for projects that make the living environment more climate-proof, up to 30% of the project costs. The scheme is intended to accelerate the implementation of these projects. On September 14, 2023, water board member Klazien Hartog symbolically handed over this amount to alderman Pascal Verkroost of the municipality of Purmerend.

Alderman Pascal Verkroost: "The KAN subsidy is a great incentive to make this project climate-proof. There will be green water buffers, a drainage system, parking spaces with water-permeable paving, and nature-friendly banks. This is to limit flooding and the effects of drought as much as possible."
Climate-proof living environment
Purmerend will start the sewer replacement project in Overwhere-Zuid subplan A6-2 in May 2024. This project covers Van Balenstraat, Lekstraat, Maasstraat, Rijnstraat, IJsselstraat, Van Goor Hinlopenstraat, and Tutein Noltheniusplein. This work will make the public space more climate-proof in order to limit flooding and the effects of drought as much as possible. For example, the green space on Tutein Nolteniusplein will be designed as a green water buffer to temporarily collect rainwater during extreme downpours. The project will be completed in mid-May 2025. The total cost of the climate adaptation measures in this project is €100,138.52, of which the municipality of Purmerend will receive €30,041.56 from the KAN scheme.
