Municipality of Purmerend: Overwhere-Zuid Subplan A6-2

We have granted € 30,041.56 subsidy to the municipality of Purmerend for climate adaptation measures in the Overwhere-Zuid Subplan A6-2 project. This is one of six projects to which HHNK has granted a subsidy from the KAN scheme.

Through this Klimaat Actief Noorderkwartier grant regulation, municipalities can receive subsidies for projects that make the living environment more climate-proof, up to 30% of the project costs. The scheme is intended to accelerate the implementation of these projects. On September 14, 2023 hoogheemraad Klazien Hartog symbolically handed over this amount to Alderman Pascal Verkroost of the municipality of Purmerend.

Alderman Pascal Verkroost: "The KAN grant is a great impetus to make this project climate-proof. There will be green water buffers, a drainage system, parking lots with permeable pavement and nature-friendly banks. This is to minimize flooding and the effects of drought."

Climate resilient living environment

Purmerend will start the sewer replacement project in Overwhere-Zuid subplan A6-2 in May 2024. This project covers the Van Balenstraat, Lekstraat, Maasstraat, Rijnstraat, IJsselstraat, Van Goor Hinlopenstraat and the Tutein Noltheniusplein. This work will make the public space more climate-proof to minimize flooding and the effects of drought. For example, the greenery of the Tutein Nolteniusplein will be designed as a green water buffer, to temporarily collect rainwater during extreme showers. The project will be completed by mid-May 2025. The total cost of the climate-adaptive measures in this project amounts to €100,138.52, of which the Purmerend municipality will receive an amount of €30,041.56 from the KAN scheme.
