Municipality of Edam-Volendam: Revitalization Old Bowl

The municipality of Edam-Volendam is going to revitalize part of the old village center in Volendam (Oude Kom). In order to prevent water nuisance caused by precipitation, a water-storing foundation layer will be installed under the road and water-passive paving on top. This will be carried out in combination with water storage on the street (raised sidewalks). Approximately 13,500m2 of paving is present within the project area. The municipality will do its utmost to make all existing driving lanes and parking spaces (total 5,500 m2) more climate proof. A water-retaining foundation layer with 315 m³ of water storage will be installed, in combination with water storage in the street, which will be possible through the application of approximately 12 cm high curbs along the driving lanes and parking spaces. Edam-Volendam will start this project in the second quarter of 2025. It will take approximately one year. The total cost of the work is € 307,800. Of this, the municipality will receive an amount of € 92,340 from the KAN scheme.
