Objections Advisory Committee

The Board of Dijkgraaf & Hoogheemraden is authorized to decide on notices of objection (with the exception of notices of objection concerning water tax). The basic principle is that the official organization advises the college on notices of objection. However, in some cases, the Objections Advisory Committee may be called in to provide the Board with independent advice. This concerns, for example, cases in which major hydraulic interests are involved or when there is great complexity with many ambiguities and complex regulations. The Regulation on Handling Objections indicates when the Advisory Committee on Objections is called in.

What does the Objections Advisory Committee do?

The Objections Advisory Committee reviews and evaluates your objection. In doing so, the committee usually invites you to an oral hearing to explain why you are objecting. The committee then advises our board about your objection. Please note: the committee's advice is not binding!

What happens to the advice?

Based on the advice of the Objections Advisory Committee, our board will make another decision. This may be the same or a different decision. If you still disagree, you can file an appeal with the District Court. At the bottom of the decision on your appeal you will usually find the address of the court to which you can send the appeal. It is important that you submit the notice of appeal to the clerk of the court, for the attention of the Administrative Law sector.

Unlike filing a notice of appeal, when filing a notice of appeal you should be aware that there are costs involved.

Composition of objections advisory committee

The Objections Advisory Committee consists of two chairs and two members. These people are independent and are not directors of the Water Board. Currently, the committee is composed as follows:

  • Martijn Schaper (chairman)
  • Yvonne Rep-van 't Wout (chairman)
  • Maarten Mathon (member)
  • Jeroen Vrijburg (member)

Secretary of the Objections Advisory Committee is Dirk Jan Sijm.
