Advisory Committee on Objections
The board of the dike reeve and water board members is authorized to decide on objections (with the exception of objections concerning water board taxes). The basic principle is that the civil service organization advises the board on objections. However, in some cases, the advisory committee on objections may be called in to provide the board with independent advice. This applies, for example, to cases involving major water management interests or where there is a high degree of complexity with many uncertainties and complex regulations. The Regulation on the handling of objections specifies when the advisory committee on objections is called in.
What does the appeals committee do?
The advisory committee reviews and assesses your objection. The committee will usually invite you to a hearing to explain why you are objecting. The committee will then advise our board on your objection. Please note: the committee's advice is not binding!
What happens to the advice?
Based on the advice of the appeals committee, our board will make a new decision. This decision may be the same or different. If you still disagree with this decision, you can lodge an appeal with the court. The address of the court to which you can send your appeal is usually stated at the bottom of the decision on your objection. It is important that you submit your appeal to the court clerk, for the attention of the Administrative Law Department.
Unlike filing an objection, when filing an appeal, you should be aware that there are costs involved.
Composition of the advisory committee on objections
The advisory committee on objections consists of two chairpersons and one member. These individuals are independent and are not directors of the water board. The committee is currently composed as follows:
- Martijn Schaper (chairman)
- Yvonne Rep-van 't Wout (chair)
- Maarten Mathon (member)
The secretary of the advisory committee on objections is Dirk Jan Sijm.
