Experience history on Mill and Pumping Mill Day!

On May 10 and 11, we will open the doors of several mills and pumping stations in the region. Visitors will have a unique opportunity to see up close how these historic water works contribute to our water management. Millers and machinists will be on hand to explain and answer questions. Objects will open throughout the area. Stop by and experience water management in action!

Open mills and pumping stations in every region

In the area north of the North Sea Canal, some 20 mills and pumping stations will be opened to the public.

From polder mills to historic pumping stations, you'll encounter everything.

Defense Pumping Station

Machinists at the Defense Pumping Station in Egmond aan den Hoef, among others, open the doors. The pumping station is hidden in the dike of the Bergermeerpolder. It was built in 1939 to keep the military Vliegveld Bergen, constructed in the Bergermeerpolder, dry. It is a special object, so definitely worth a visit.

National Mill and Pumping Mill Day is an annual national event that takes place during the month of May. These days are designed to highlight heritage. During this weekend, visitors can learn about the waterworks used in the past, but sometimes still used today. Tours and demonstrations are given.

Anyone can stop by and admission is free. Most mills and pumping stations are open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but this may vary by location. Toilet visits are not possible. Be especially welcome and discover more about the history of our water works.
