Four tips for cleaner water. Will you join us?

With just a few small choices, you can help ensure clean water and a healthy environment. Right at home, in your garden, or when caring for your pet. It’s easy, mindful, and hassle-free.
1. Brush your pet outside
Dog and cat hair may contain residues of flea treatments, pesticides, and heavy metals. When this hair is washed away by rainwater or drains, it can end up in ditches and puddles.
- Brush your pet outside.
- Wear disposable gloves.
- Dispose of hair and gloves in the general waste.
- Don't let hair blow away or get into the water.
A small effort, a big difference for clean water.

2. Use flea drops with care
Flea treatments contain substances that can be harmful to aquatic animals and insects. These substances can end up in surface water through rainwater runoff or swimming.
- Use flea drops only when necessary.
- Wear disposable gloves.
- Dispose of gloves with the general waste.
- Don't let your dog swim during the first few days.
An even better approach is to prevent a flea infestation by:
- Check your dog or cat regularly for fleas using a flea comb;
- Wash your pet’s bedding and pillows regularly at 60°C.
This is how you protect both your pet and the environment.
3. Use lice treatments wisely
Excessive amounts of pesticides or improperly mixed pesticides can end up in the soil and ditches via rainwater. This is harmful not only to pests, but also to beneficial insects and aquatic life.
- Follow the recommended mixing ratio.
- Wear disposable gloves.
- Save what's left for next time.
- Preferably choose ready-made products.
You can solve the problem much more easily—and just as effectively—by thoroughly hosing down the leaves with a strong stream of water from a garden hose as soon as the aphids become visible.
- Use a spray nozzle to make the spray stronger.
- Aim the spray at the leaves from below.
- Repeat this a few times and you'll be rid of the lice.
If you’d rather let nature take its course, you can also introduce ladybugs. These are available at garden centers or online.
Using resources wisely helps nature recover and stay healthy.
4. Use green limescale remover in moderation
Green algae cleaner can be washed away from patios and driveways by rainwater and end up in groundwater and surface water. This can be harmful to plants, insects, and aquatic animals.
- Do not use more than necessary.
- Follow the mixing ratio.
- Allow the product to soak in thoroughly.
- Scrub it clean only after that.
- Preferably choose ready-made products.
Scale remover is still a chemical solution. Scrubbing with hot water and a stiff brush or wire brush is also effective. Repeat as needed.
Together, we keep our water clean and our environment healthy.
