Sustainable civil engineering

In civil engineering, 60 parties are working together on sustainability in water projects, among other things.

HHNK follows this so-called 'Sustainable Civil Engineering Approach' for projects with a contract value of €0.3 million or more. One of the tools used is theCO2 performance ladder.

Regional Energy Strategy (RES)

In order to comply with the Paris climate agreements, the Dutch government has asked thirty regions to submit proposals for locations for generating sustainable energy. This involves a total of 35 terawatt hours of electricity, which is comparable to the electricity consumption of 10 million households.

Two of these thirty regions fall within our management area. These are North Holland North and North Holland South.

The energy will mainly be generated by solar panels and wind turbines.

HHNK is contributing to this challenge with over 100,000 solar panels, mainly at treatment sites, and possibly also with wind energy.

Aquathermal energy (heat from water) will also be included in the RES in the Regional Heat Structure and the Transition Vision for Heat that builds on it. More information about this can be found under the heading Aquathermal Energy.
