Bicycle routes

Get on your bike and experience the stories of the Purmer. On the occasion of 400 years of the Purmer (2022), two bicycle routes have been created: one of 17 km through the northern part and one of 15 km through the southern part of the polder. Both routes start at the Purmerenderweg-Westerweg intersection near the Purmer church and can easily be combined.
With the leaflet in hand, the bicycle tour becomes an interesting time travel through the history of the Purmer! Read about the reclamation of the Purmer Lake using polder mills in the first quarter of the seventeenth century. Get to know the places where once stood the beautiful estates Ilpenstein Castle and Wolffenhoeck. And learn all about the cheese factories De Purmer and De Verwachting, where farmers brought their milk in the twentieth century.
A printable compact version of the routes can be downloaded below. An expanded digital version is on the Waterlands Archives website .
