Finsulate

About 600,000 liters of toxic antifouling paint is released into the environment in the Netherlands every year. From the Water Innovation Fund, Finsulate receives funding to commercialize Finsulate Antifouling. This product is a sustainable alternative to traditional products that use chemicals in the paints to prevent the fouling of mussels, algae and other organisms.
Finsulate Antifouling is a protective film that insulates the hull making it much more difficult for underwater organisms to attach to the underwater hull. Any fouling is easy to wipe away underwater and spray off with high pressure above water. Because this product does not release toxins, it has no negative effects on water quality. This allows Finsulate to claim the Water Innovation Fund. Currently, Finsulate Antifouling exists to a modest extent for the private market. With support from the Water Innovation Fund, the step to the business market will be taken with a product that is as circular as possible. In the process, the glue, film and fibers will be further preserved.
