Healthy covered soil

A rich, airy nutrient soil makes for healthy and strong plants. The healthier and stronger plants are, the less chance of disease. This prevents unnecessary use of chemical pesticides. Make the soil healthy and fertile by shoveling compost or organic (cow) manure through it; artificial fertilizer is less suitable. In addition, weeds have little chance in an overgrown garden. Choose dense plant cover and ground cover. For example, cover non-overgrown areas with a layer of compost, wood chips, cocoa shells, grass or other organic material (mulching).

Cost

With healthy soil, plants are less likely to get sick and die. This saves money by not having to buy new plants.

Flooding

In healthy soil, water can easily sink into the garden.

Drought

Healthy soil holds water longer (depending on the type of soil). In hot periods, this means you need to water less.

Heat stress

Health for healthy soil and plenty of greenery in your garden. This helps prevent heat stress.

Water Quality

Healthy plants are also less likely to get sick and suffer from pests. This eliminates the need to use chemicals.

Tip

Make your own (free) compost from your yard waste.
