Individual Treatment of Wastewater (IBA).

Are you not discharging to the municipal sewer, but through an Individual Treatment of Wastewater (IBA)? Then you pay pollution charges. Do we manage your system? Then you pay purification levy. You will receive an assessment for a single household (1 pollution unit (ve)) if your IBA falls into class II or III.

Here's how it works

An IBA is a system that treats wastewater and then discharges it to surface water, such as a ditch. If you manage an IBA yourself, you pay pollution tax. If we manage the IBA, you pay purification levy. The rates for the pollution levy and the purification levy are the same.

IBA class I: septic tank

You will receive a pollution tax assessment for discharging to a septic tank. Each household pays pollution charges at the rate of a multi-person household (3 ve). Except if you live alone. Then you pay for a single-person household (1 ve).

IBA class II and III

Does your IBA fall into class II or III? Then we set the pollution tax assessment at the rate for a single-person household (1 ve).

You may submit a request for the single occupancy rate (1 ve). In order for us to review your request, it is important that you include these documents:

  1. A document showing that it is an IBA class II or III. For example, a design drawing or an explanation of the IBA system. Including a document showing that the effluent (wastewater after treatment) meets the requirements of IBA class II, IIIa or IIIb.
  2. A purchase receipt from the IBA;
  3. if present: a document showing that the IBA is maintained annually. If an IBA II or III is not maintained annually the purifying capacity deteriorates and you will no longer qualify for a lower rate.
