Introduction

Before you is the first newsletter of the dike reinforcement of the Havendijk. The Havendijk is a 2.6 kilometer long dike along Het Nieuwe Diep which has the status of a primary water barrier. This water barrier protects the area behind the dike from the sea. The dike was assessed in 2021 and this assessment showed that 959 meters of the Havendijk no longer meets the water safety standard. The task is spread across the Havendijk between Paleiskade and Nieuwe Werk. Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier (HHNK) has therefore started the exploration phase. With this first newsletter we look back on the past period and look ahead with you to what is to come in 2024.
