Quay improvement Starnmeer

The dike around Starnmeer has failed and must be improved. We ensure that the dike once again meets the safety requirements and is expected to last 20 to 30 years. In March 2023, contractor Beens Dredging started the work.

What will happen?

The problem with the dike is that it is too low in some places and almost everywhere it is 'inwardly unstable'. This means that there is too much risk that the dike could slide towards the polder during high storage basin water combined with heavy rainfall. The most obvious solution is to make the inner side of the dike flatter and to widen the retaining wall by adding soil. This requires customization, because there are many different water levels in Starnmeer and there is relatively little room for inward reinforcement.

Who do we work with?

Discussions were held with all residents, owners and other stakeholders in the project area in search of the best possible integration into the area. This participation and consultation with residents and organizations have led to valuable new insights and measures that have limited the disadvantages. In cooperation with the Province of North Holland and STIVAS, a land consolidation plan was worked out in the Starnmeer area by completely buying out a farm.

Where does the project take place?

The section to be improved runs around Starnmeer, with the exception of the stretch of provincial road between the traffic circle to the ferry De Woude and the Markervaart exit. During the work there will be detour for through (bicycle) traffic.

When will the project take place and how long will it take?
