Lars Boon becomes our new historian

This fall Lars Boon (Hoogwoud, 1996) will start as a historian at the Water Board. He succeeds our colleague Diederik Aten who will retire in 2026. Fortunately, Lars will walk with Diederik for the first few months to get settled in.

Lars did his master's degree in History at the University of Amsterdam. He started working as a freelance historian and podcast maker where his strength is bringing heritage to life through lectures, publications and (water) heritage podcasts. Until recently, he worked at the Westfries Museum on exhibitions and educational programs. He is also one of the well-known faces behind the history platform The Dutch Historian on Instagram. Much of his work focuses on the history of Hollands Noorderkwartier with all its stories inextricably linked to water heritage.

'I am enormously looking forward to passing on the stories of heritage for HHNK,' said Lars. 'We are extremely pleased to welcome Lars to HHNK with his infectious energy and expertise.
