LoGiC – Low Carbon Off-Grid Communities
The main objective of LoGiC is to develop a standard model for a hybrid system based on renewable energy. For LoGiC, this means that community and stakeholder involvement is the most important factor in the successful implementation of DHES. That is why we invite all parties in Europe to participate in our Logic Community of Practice (CoP). The CoP connects follower regions, the private sector, and other stakeholders who may be interested in joining the community. The goal is to establish three demonstration sites where DHES is operational: in the UK, NL DE. Each pilot will focus on relevant aspects of DHES. The mission of the CoP will be to strengthen local support in Europe, serve as a sounding board for new projects, and share knowledge for decentralized renewable energy in Europe.https://logic-dhes.eu/.
Name of the subsidy program
INTERREG North West Europe (NWE) 2014-2020 promotes interregional cooperation to make North West Europe a strong economic player and an attractive and sustainable place to work and live, characterized by a high level of innovation and strong cohesion.
TheInterreg North-West Europeprogramme a transnational programme. It focuses on participation by parties from seven countries. Parties from Switzerland (not a member of the EU) can also participate. In the Netherlands, the aim is to stimulate innovation and sustainable economic growth in the provinces of North Holland, South Holland, Utrecht, Flevoland, North Brabant, Overijssel, Gelderland, Zeeland, and Limburg. The programme co-financed by theEuropean Regional Development Fund(ERDF). The ERDF budget for INTERREG NWE 2014-2020 is €396 million.
Project objectives
The project results of the three pilot projects form the basis for the project objectives. The LoGiC project will test, demonstrate, and evaluate three DHES and develop a blueprint for further upscaling. Ten regions within Europe will be supported in implementing the blueprint. The consortium includes private parties (Tocardo and OGTC) and an industry umbrella organization (ARE), all of which have a keen interest in further developing the DHES value chain. IfaS (university) and OGTC (test site) are developing the DHES model. Aquatera (research organization) will then support regions within Europe in implementing the blueprint. Peer-to-peer mechanisms will be set up between the three pilots and the regions. LoGiC focuses on 'Energy Remoteness'. This concerns the availability, quality, and costs of grid connections (electricity and gas).
Contribution from HHNK
The solar energy park on Texel is in line with these objectives and is subsidized by Interreg North-West Europe because of its contribution to issues such as energy storage and grid connection.
Location
HHNK's activities take place on Texel.
Partners
The Low Carbon Off-Grid Communities project has eight partners from four different member states (the UK, Belgium, Germany, and the Netherlands):
- North Holland Development Agency (NL)
- Trier University of Applied Sciences Institute for Applied Material Flow Management – IfaS (DE)
- Offgrid Test Centre Foundation (OGTC, NL)
- Aquatera Ltd (UK)
- Alliance for Rural Electrification (BE)
- Birkenfeld Association of Municipalities (DE)
- Tocardo International BV (NL)
Budget
The total budget for the project is €4.2 million. HHNK's contribution amounts to €584,000. The Province of North Holland is subsidizing €87,690 and Europe (Interreg) €350,760.
Duration of the project
The project started on March 16, 2017, and is expected to run until March 15, 2020.
