Failed direct debit (reversal)
How it works
If it is not possible to debit the monthly amount, the direct debit will fail. This is called a reversal.
Reasons why a direct debit may fail:
- Insufficient balance. The direct debits will resume the following month. If the direct debit fails again, we will stop the automatic collection. You will then have to pay the outstanding amount yourself.
- The money has been debited, but you have withdrawn the instalment amount, in which case we will stop the direct debit after one failed attempt. You will then have to pay the outstanding amount yourself.
- The bank account you are trying to collect from has been closed or blocked. In that case, we will stop the direct debit after one failed attempt. You will then have to pay the outstanding amount yourself.
In all cases, you will receive a letter about this.
Not sure why the payment failed? Check with your bank.
