Catching moles on the dike

During our levee inspections, we sometimes find that there are moles in the levee. Moles dig tunnels in our dikes, endangering the stability and safety of our flood defenses. If we don't do anything about it, the mole burrows can lead to a breach during high water.
Mole clips and information signs
To limit the damage caused by moles, we have hired a professional mole catcher. He places mole traps on the dikes where moles or mole burrows have been spotted. Those clamps are there temporarily. We inform hikers about the placement of the mole traps with special information signs. These are placed and removed at the same time as the mole traps. Therefore, please pay attention to the information signs yourself and keep your dog on a leash to avoid accidents. There are no livestock on the dikes where we place the traps and signs.
Feed for owls
All moles caught are offered as food to a raptor keeper with owls. These are the only raptors that also see the moles as food. The other raptors do not eat them. So we don't throw anything away.
