Takeover of urban water maintenance on Texel
What's going to happen?
By signing the letter of intent for the takeover of Stedelijk Water, the municipality and the water board agreed on a schedule. The various watercourses have now been measured by the MUG measurement agency so that we can jointly determine which watercourses will be taken over by HHNK. The water board is expected to take over responsibility for the maintenance of urban water from the municipality of Texel at the beginning of 2025.
In many municipalities, different parties are responsible for water maintenance. It is unclear to residents which public authority should contact with questions or complaints about ditches and maintenance. The water board and the municipality of Texel want to work together to provide clarity for residents. That is why the municipality is transferring responsibility for urban water maintenance to the water board. HHNK already maintains all the waters in rural areas.
When will the project take place and how long will it last?
The work is in full swing. The water board is expected to be responsible for maintaining the ditches in the urban area by early 2025.
