Paul Post is the new water board archivist

Paul Post, director of Regionaal Archief Alkmaar, is the new water board archivist of Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier. On Thursday, May 15, he handed over the proverbial baton from secretary-director Martin Kuipers, who had held this role since 2016. In 2015, our General Board decided not to appoint an external water board archivist. Since then, this function has been invested as a role with secretary-director Martin Kuipers. Martin Kuipers: "A good archive is part of our collective memory. You have to know where you came from to know what you have to do in the future. From this knowledge, I have gladly fulfilled the role of archivist, but at the same time I think that our archive needs a real archivist. I am therefore happy to pass this task on."

With the rapid succession of developments, the growing complexity of information management and the advent of the new Archives Act, it is necessary to appoint an external water board archivist. Indeed, under the new Archives Act, the Water Board is required to appoint an archivist and it is no longer sufficient to assign it as a role to the secretary-director. On April 16, the General Board approved the appointment of an external water board archivist from the Regionaal Archief Alkmaar.

The water board archivist is the supervisor of the archives of HHNK that have not yet been transferred and of the archives that have already been transferred to the other archive services. Annually he draws up a report on this to inform the CHI, executive board and the province.
