programme "Purification of the Future" Wins the Water Innovation Award!
On Wednesday, September 16, the Water Innovation Award ceremony took place; this year, there were twelve nominees selected from forty entries. Over the past month, people could vote for the nominees. So many people voted for us at programme that we’re among the three winners! It’s incredibly exciting to see so much enthusiasm for and around this programme. Thank you for that!
Water Board Member Marjan Leijen: “This project shows that it is possible to think ahead about the water treatment of tomorrow. The starting point: what should water treatment look like to meet future requirements for water quality, climate neutrality, circularity, and equipment replacement? We’re working on this together with nine other water boards, STOWA, market players, and research institutions to bridge the gap between technology and our ambitions. After all, it’s about ensuring clean water for future generations as well.”
The Union of Water Boards (STOWA), Het Waterschapshuis, and the Dutch Water Board Bank are jointly organizing the Water Innovation Award to highlight innovative projects by Dutch water boards.
"The Wastewater Treatment of the Future" is a multi-year research and development program aimed at developing a completely new wastewater treatment concept to treat contaminated wastewater into reusable water in an energy-neutral, climate-neutral, and circular manner. Work is currently underway to develop a pilot site next to the Bennekom wastewater treatment plant and to design the first pilot train that will be tested there.
