Rain fence

By installing a rain fence, you collect extra water for watering the garden. A rain fence can be placed as an ordinary fence. The amount of water storage is limited. Additional measures are needed to make your garden water-ready.

An example is the Rainwinner. One element is 90 cm long, 22 cm wide and 60 cm high. It can store 110 liters of water. A stack of 3 elements is 180 cm high and holds 330 liters. For more information visit: www.rainwinner.nl

You only qualify for disconnection subsidy if the overflow from the tank is connected to an infiltration facility in your own yard. An overflow is needed in case the tank is full.

Cost

The cost is about €500 for a 330-liter rain shelter. There are hardly any costs for work.

Space use

The space needed for your rain fence depends on its size.

Difficulty

A rain fence must be properly anchored so that it stands firmly in severe weather conditions. Also, the fence must be level (especially vertically).

Earthmoving

The rain fence must be able to drain through the existing downspout. This will be connected underground. The earth movement is minimal.

Maintenance

Keep only leaf grid and leaf trap clean.

Points of interest

  • The structure to which the rain fence is attached must be sturdy. The filled elements can be heavy.
  • Open the valve in the frost period to allow the system to drain.
