Rainwater column
By installing a rainwater column, you collect extra water for watering the garden. The amount of water storage is limited. Additional measures are needed to make your garden water-ready.
A rainwater column is often larger and taller than a rain barrel. The capacity can be as much as 400 liters. The advantage of a rainwater column is that you can connect the garden hose directly through the water pressure of the rainwater column. The columns are available in garden centers or can be ordered over the Internet.
You only qualify for disconnection subsidy if the overflow from the tank is connected to an infiltration facility in your own yard. An overflow is needed in case the tank is full.
Cost
The cost is about €300 for a 400-liter rain column. There is hardly any cost for work.
Space use
The space needed for your rainwater column depends on its size.
Difficulty
You can easily install a rainwater column yourself, preferably in the shade.
Earthmoving
No earth moving is required, except when choosing to connect underground piping.
Maintenance
Keep only leaf grid and leaf trap clean.

Points of interest
- The surface of the rainwater column must be flat and solid. This is because a full rainwater column is heavy.
- Preferably place the rainwater column in the shade to prevent algae growth.
- Use a leaf catcher to prevent the rainwater tank from filling up with debris.
- Health that the rainwater column is sealed at the top to prevent it from becoming a breeding ground for insects.
