Restoration of the Oosterend drainage sluice

What's going to happen?

For more than 100 years, the drainage sluice near Oosterend (built in 1875) discharged water from three polders into the Wadden Sea: the Het Noorden, Eijerland, and Waal en Burg polders. In 1980, the sluice was closed when the dike was raised. This fall, we will begin renovating this lock, which is protected as a national monument. A subsidy has been requested to carry out the work under the North Holland National Monument Restoration Subsidy Scheme.

The work consists of:

  • cleaning the masonry;
  • replacing damaged masonry and jointing;
  • replacing damaged steel parts.

Where is the project taking place?

The lock is located at Stuifweg 4 in Oosterend.

When will the project take place and how long will it last?

The work will take place between September 16, 2024, and the end of 2024. For safety reasons, the walking route will be closed during this period.
