Restoration Uitwateringssluis Oosterend

What will happen? 

The Uitwateringssluis near Oosterend (built in 1875) discharged water from three polders into the Wadden Sea for more than 100 years: polders Het Noorden, Eijerland and Waal and Burg. The lock was closed in 1980 when the dike was raised. This fall we will start refurbishing this lock which is protected as a National Monument. A subsidy has been applied for to carry out the work under the North Holland Subsidy Scheme for the Restoration of National Monuments. 

Work includes:

• cleaning the masonry;
• Replacing deteriorated masonry and pointing;
• replacing deteriorated steel parts.

Where does the project take place?

The lock is located at Stuifweg 4 in Oosterend.

When will the project take place and how long will it take?

The work will take place between Sept. 16, 2024 and the end of 2024. For safety reasons, the passage of the hiking trail will be closed during this period.
