Improvement of storage basin quay Zeevang polder
The levees were found to be below the established standard after the last round of inspections. The standard determines the maximum permissible chance of a dike breaching. To guarantee water safety for the future, it is necessary to reinforce the dike.
What will happen?
The basin dike around polder Zeevang is being improved. Most of the project is in the planning phase. In this phase we make an inventory of who we are dealing with and what is happening in the area. We try to involve many stakeholders in this phase so that everyone can contribute to the final result.
Where does the project take place?
The reinforcements will take place along the polder dike of the Purmerringvaart, the Where, the Beemsterringvaart and the Kennemerland Uitwatering (the Korsloot). The attached map shows the section layout of the entire project running from Edam towards Purmerend and thence along Kwadijk and Hobrede to Oosthuizen.

When will the project take place and how long will it take?
In early 2023, we spoke to many residents at residents' evenings and collected many wishes. Then the project team started working on the preferred alternative (VKA) for two subareas (Zeevangsdijkje and Westerdraaij)
The project is geographically divided into subprojects for each subarea. The team is working out the task by sub-area. Here is a brief summary of the status of each subarea:
Subarea 1 Zeevangsdijkje
The barrier has been partly rejected for height and partly rejected for macro-stability of the inner slope. A number of sections failed on both aspects.
The design, or preferred alternative, has been developed. This preferred alternative has been and will be discussed with residents along the route. The VKA consists of moving ditches, raising the barrier and installing structures.
The own-service permit and other permit applications will be published in the coming months.
Subarea 2 Kogerdijk
In the fall of 2022, the inner dike of the Purmerringvaart was improved as the first section of the Zeevang polder. Extra soil was applied to the dike, on the side of the residential houses in the Wheermolen neighborhood.
Subarea 3 Westerdraaij
The barrier has been rejected for macrostability of the inner slope.
The design is currently being worked out for this section; this design consists of digging in a clay cofferdam on the outward side. The work will only take place on the existing quay.
The schedule is to carry out this work in 2025.
Subarea 4 West dike
The barrier has been rejected for height.
The design is currently being worked out for this section, this design consists of raising the existing crest. The work will only take place on the existing quay.
The design will be discussed with stakeholders in the coming months.
Subarea 5 Hobrede/Westeinde
The barrier has been rejected for height and macro stability of the inner slope.
Several design variants are being developed for this section.
The design will be discussed with stakeholders in the coming months.
Subarea 6 Beetskoogdijkje
The barrier has been rejected for height.
The design is currently being worked out for this section, this design consists of raising the existing crest. The work will only take place on the existing quay.
The design will be discussed with stakeholders in the first quarter of 2025.
Subarea 7 Korsloot/Westerkoogdijk
The barrier has been rejected for height.
The design is currently being worked out for this section, this design consists of raising the existing crest. The work will only take place on the existing quay.
The design will be discussed with stakeholders in the first quarter of 2025.
Conditioning studies
In the coming period, we will carry out additional (groundwork) surveys to gain a detailed picture of the local situation. This could include surveys such as a land survey, archaeological research and environmental soil testing. If we have to come to your plot, we will inform you separately.
Who do we work with?
We are cooperating throughout the Zeevang project with the municipalities of Edam-Volendam and Purmerend, with the Province of North Holland and with other interest groups and stakeholders.
