Replacement of IBA Forest Pavilion De Berenkuil

HHNK manages and maintains the IBA (Individual Wastewater Treatment) of Bospaviljoen de Berekuil in Schoorl. The system consists of a number of underground tanks containing technical equipment. The IBA of Bospaviljoen de Berekuil in Schoorl has reached the end of its service life and is being replaced by a new and improved installation in collaboration with the municipality of Bergen.

What's going to happen?

The existing installation will be removed in its entirety, after which the new installation will be put in place. This new installation is a single system consisting of a number of interconnected concrete wells;

  • Pre-treatment, for capturing objects that do not belong in the sewer system. This is also where the initial biological treatment takes place.
  • Bioreactor: adding air creates a favorable environment for the bacteria that promote purification.
  • Post-treatment, where the water settles again and any remaining sludge can sink to the bottom.
  • Infiltration facility, where the purified water enters the soil.

Where is the project taking place?

The project location is near the Bospaviljoen de Berenkuil, on Schoorlse Zeeweg, in the middle of the Schoorl dunes.

When will the project take place and how long will it last?

Work will start on November 27 and will take approximately two weeks.

Who do we work with?

The Water Board is the client for the work. For this project, we are collaborating with the municipality of Bergen as the owner of the system. The work has been coordinated with Staatsbosbeheer (the Dutch Forestry Commission), the Bospaviljoen (Forest Pavilion), and the Omgevingsdienst (Environmental Service) and is being carried out by Wetlantec Projects BV.
