Replacement of pressure pipe in Grootebroek

During excavation work near the railway in Grootebroek on Friday, July 26, 2024, a leak was discovered in a sewer pressure pipe. The water board instructed contractor Van den Heuvel to immediately construct a diversion so that the leaking section of the pressure pipe could be taken out of service. After investigation, it appeared that the pressure pipe had reached the end of its service life. We are therefore replacing the entire pressure pipe through Grootebroek.

What's going to happen?

The new pressure pipe will be laid using two horizontally controlled drilling (HDD) techniques. This method allows a pipe to be laid underground over a long distance from two points. The deep location means that any obstacles can be passed without hindrance and disruption to the surrounding area is limited. This method of construction means that work sites only need to be set up in a few places. The locations of the work sites will be restored to their original condition after the work has been completed.

When will the project take place and how long will it last?

Preparations for the project began on Monday, December 9, and will continue until Friday, December 20. During this period, the work areas will be set up. Work will commence immediately after the Christmas holidays. The work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, March 28. The schedule is partly dependent on the weather conditions during the winter. In the event of frost, the work may be delayed.

Nuisance

In order to weld the new pressure pipe together, a work site will be set up on Verlengde Raadhuislaan, just before the intersection with provincial road N505, starting Monday, January 6, 2025. This entrance will therefore be closed to all traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians. Traffic to and from Grootebroek should use the exit to Esdoornlaan or De Weed in Lutjebroek. Diversions will be put in place when necessary. Raadhuislaan and Verlengde Raadhuislaan, including surrounding homes, will remain accessible from Zesstedenweg during the work. The work and the delivery and removal of materials may cause some noise and traffic disruption. We hope you will bear with us. The image below shows the drilling locations as red lines. The green lines are the connections that will be laid 'normally' using excavators.
