Vince Sprenkeling audience winner exhibition 'On the dike!'
On Friday, Feb. 28, the results of the audience award for the art exhibition "On the Dike!" were announced. Vince Sprenkeling wins the audience award. The jury is in complete agreement with this audience winner. "The composition of the linocut is very exciting. The bow of the boat in the foreground combined with the slanting lines of the canal give the landscape a tremendous depth. And the way the evening sky turns red is particularly atmospheric. Vince's explanation of his work is also apt: the boat as a symbol of a new adventure and the dikes as a symbol of stability and safety," said the chairman of the jury. The exhibition is now on display at our office in Heerhugowaard.

Eighteen students from the Han Fortmann (Trinitas College) in Heerhugowaard made a work of art in the form of a linocut, inspired by the Dutch polder landscape, as an exam assignment for the subject of Drawing. They walked on dikes, trekked through the polder and took pictures. In this way, they went in search of their own "polder vision. The polders tell a story of struggle against water and innovation. Each of the artworks creatively portrays this history.
Collaboration
This is the ninth time the Water Board has partnered with the Han Fortmann (Trinitas College) in Heerhugowaard. Each year, HHNK gives a water-related exam assignment. A jury, consisting of delegates from the school and the Water Board, chooses a top four. The public then determines the winner.
Exposition
The exhibition is on display through May 2 during office hours at our Heerhugowaard office (Stationsplein 136) and digitally on the Op de dijk! page on this website. Visitors to the exhibition can then also discover the museum space 'Waterschat'. Here, masterpieces from the water heritage collection can be admired. Learn more about the pile worm that infested the sea dikes in the 18th century or view the huge wall map of the North Quarter by the surveyor Dou. The exhibitions are free of charge.
