Fish rescue operation

If you see dead fish or fish in distress, you can report this to us. If there are multiple fish involved, there may be a problem with the water quality. We will investigate the cause.

Report

If you see dead fish or fish gasping for air at the water's surface, call us during office hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) at 072-5828282 and outside office hours at 0800-1430.

What happens after you have filed a report?

If you report fish mortality, we will take the following steps:

  • Your report will be forwarded immediately to both the area manager and the water quality incident management team.
  • Together, they assess the situation and determine what follow-up steps are necessary.
  • We first assess who is responsible for resolving the situation. If it is us, we take immediate action.
  • If we suspect a water quality problem, we take water quality measurements to better assess the situation.
  • When fish are in distress due to oxygen deficiency, HHNK attempts to provide additional oxygenation in the water. This can be achieved through increased flow or oxygen pumps.
  • In the event of an incident for which there is no quick solution, the fish will be caught. This is often done in collaboration with the emergency response team of Sportvisserij MidWest Nederland (MidWest Netherlands Angling Association) and/or commercial fisheries. We only do this if there is no other solution available.
  • If there are more than five dead fish, our maintenance team will remove them as quickly as possible.
