Water-absorbent bags
Climate change is causing increasingly heavy rainfall. These heavy rains also increase the risk of flooding. This may require measures to better protect your home against flooding. One such measure is to place water-absorbent bags in front of doors and other passageways.
What is a water-absorbing bag?
Water-absorbing bags, blankets, and mats offer quick and effective protection against sudden flooding. A water-absorbing bag is also known as a sandbag without sand. A water-absorbent bag quickly absorbs water and swells evenly. Within minutes, it forms a solid barrier against flooding. You can place them in front of a door, but you can also use them to build a wall or dike.
Costs
Water-absorbing bags are available in various shapes and sizes. Prices range from approximately €12 to €80 per bag.
Use of space
This measure is useful if water enters your home through the front or back door, the skylight, a door or other opening on the ground floor, the basement, or the garage under the house.
Tips
Water-absorbent bags are lightweight, easy to store, and take up little space, especially when compared to a filled sandbag, for example. A water-absorbent bag can be filled with water in a matter of minutes, making it quick to use. Keep in mind that a water-absorbent bag needs space to fill up. In addition, a water-absorbent bag can usually only be used once.
