Installing water retaining bulkheads
Climate change is causing increasingly heavy rainfall. Because of these heavy rainstorms, there is also a greater chance of flooding. This may call for measures to better protect your home from flooding. One such measure is the manual installation of water retaining baffles for passages.
What are temporary partitions?
They are water resistant baffles that you can install yourself in front of a passageway such as a door. These baffles prevent water from entering your home through the passageway. Such baffles are also called flood protection and floodbarrier.
Water retaining bulkheads come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Many baffles are secured with a click system or are completely removable. You place these baffles before flooding occurs.
Cost
There are many types and sizes of water retaining bulkheads; prices also vary. A one-meter-wide bulkhead is available from about €700.
Space use
This measure makes sense if water flows into your home through the front or back door, the cuckoo, a door or other opening on the first floor, into the basement, or into the garage under the house.
What do you need.
Preferably work with an installer who specializes in installing water retaining bulkheads.
Tips
When you search the Internet, it's best to search using terms like floodwalls, flood protection or floodbarrier. You can install small bulkheads by hand yourself. To place large bulkheads, you need several people. When the bulkheads are not in use, you need to store them. So you need storage space. Often the mounting points are permanently mounted to the house.
