View of the coast: privacy aspects
The camera images are used exclusively for scientific research. The privacy of filmed passers-by is guaranteed.
Privacy and data access
Privacy data access has been established in accordance with the requirements of the General data protection Regulation data protection GDPR). The following points are important in this regard. A Data Protection Impact Assessment has also been carried out.
Data retention periods
The research project will last four years (2022-2025). External parties (companies and universities) will also be engaged to answer the research questions, processing data, and maintain the system. Separate agreements will be concluded for this purpose. The video data will be stored until all projects related to the research project have been completed and all research questions have been answered. Upon completion of the projects, the water board will decide how the data will be stored (e.g., anonymised) or destroyed.
The camera images are not recorded continuously. Depending on the requirements of the investigation, individual camera images will be stored several times per hour. During certain periods (e.g., when there are large sand movements), short videos of a few minutes will be stored.
Access to images by third parties
The camera images are not publicly accessible. All images are collected and stored centrally by the water board. Only authorized persons are permitted to work with the data. These are persons responsible for maintaining the system or persons who require the data for various investigations. Access is regulated in agreements with various parties, which set out the rights and obligations with regard to the data. The declarations will be elaborated at a later stage.
Within the scientific community, it is standard practice to make parts of research data publicly available. These parts of the data are anonymised.
Request for access
To view the images, third parties (i.e., persons/parties not involved in the project/research) must submit a request to the water board. The assessment will be conducted in accordance with the regulations of the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
