Den Oever cut
In 2018, the cut was constructed as part of the reinforcement of the Den Oever harbor dike. This dike reinforcement was part of the Flood Protection Program (HWBP). The cut in Den Oever is the connection between the village and the harbor area. At high tide, the coupure is closed by means of two sets of wooden doors. In recent years, a number of areas for improvement have emerged with regard to traffic safety and closing the coupure at high tide. We are carrying out a number of works to improve traffic safety and to make it easier to close the coupure during a crisis situation at high tide. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the works are taking longer than expected.
The original completion date for the project was Friday, April 11, 2025. Contractor Oosterhof Holman has indicated that it needs extra time for the final work. The remaining work will be carried out on Monday, May 26, and Tuesday, May 27. During the work, the closure will be in place at various times. Traffic controllers will divert traffic. The road closure will be open in the evenings and at night.

What's going to happen?
The plastic filling blocks on the floor of the cut were slippery and often shifted. This caused cyclists to slip and fall, sometimes with unpleasant consequences. In addition, our crisis management organization was hindered by the filling blocks. They were difficult to remove when the wooden doors had to be closed in the event of high water.
To improve this, the wooden doors, pivot points, and concrete floor have recently been modified (see photos below).

For the safety of road users and contractor employees, the closure will be in effect at various times. During these times, there will be a diversion and traffic controllers will be directing traffic. Traffic will be diverted via Havenkade and Dokweg (see the image below). Emergency and rescue services will not be affected by the work. We apologize for any inconvenience caused at certain times.

Where is the project taking place?
The intersection is on Zeestraat, heading towards Havenkade.
When will the project take place and how long will it last?
From Monday, April 7, through Friday, April 11 (between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.), contractor Oosterhof Holman from Wieringerwerf will carry out the work on behalf of the water board.
Who do we work with?
The preparations for the work are being carried out in close consultation with the municipality of Hollands Kroon. The municipality welcomes the changes to the road closure due to the improved traffic safety.
