The municipality and groundwater
The municipality has Health over public spaces. Public spaces include streets, squares and parks. When groundwater nuisance occurs in public spaces, the municipality takes action if it can.
Intervening in cases of nuisance
The municipality intervenes only if the nuisance is recurrent and the measure is practical. One solution, for example, is a drainage system. You can connect your house or land to it or to the municipal sewer with its own drain.
Drainage system explanation
Water that does not drain on its own needs help to flow away. This can be done with an underground drain, which is called a drainage system. A drain is a perforated pipe in the ground through which water flows to the ditch or sewer.
Groundwater in new housing developments
The municipality would prefer to prevent groundwater problems. Careful attention is paid to this when building and preparing new residential areas. Building land is raised with sand. Sufficient ditches and possibly drainage are constructed. This all contributes to a smaller chance of groundwater nuisance.
