Take part in the HHNK Water Portrait
We are looking for residents who would like to participate in the HHNK Water Portrait project. Participants will use photos and a personal story to describe the role water plays in their lives. Their contributions will be part of a regional exhibition being organized in the lead-up to the 2027 water board elections.
Anyone eligible to vote within the HHNK area can apply. HHNK is looking for participants from diverse backgrounds, of all ages, living in different communities, and with varied experiences with water. Applications will be accepted through November 18 via the Waterportret page.
What are the benefits of participating?
Participants will have the opportunity to share their stories about water with a wide audience. In addition, they will receive:
- a workshop on photographic storytelling;
- a spot in the exhibition “Water Portrait of Holland’s Northern Quarter”;
- a VVV gift certificate worth €50;
- a travel allowance of up to €30.
How does it work?
Participants will begin with an evening workshop at HHNK’s headquarters in Heerhugowaard. During this session, they will learn how to tell a story through photography. They will also have a professional portrait taken.
Afterward, participants will work independently on a photography assignment. Through their photos, they will capture what water means to them. Together, the results will form the Water Portrait of Hollands Noorderkwartier.
Who is it for?
For the Water Portrait project, we are looking for a group of residents (aged 18 or older) from our service area that is as diverse as possible. It is precisely these different experiences and perspectives that make the Water Portrait valuable. No photography experience is necessary. A curious eye and an interest in the local area are enough.
About the Water Portrait
Water plays an important role in North Holland. For some, it is a source of relaxation; for others, it affects their daily lives, work, nature, or safety. Through the “Water Portrait” project, HHNK aims to highlight these personal stories and show how water connects people in the region.
