Wanted: Participants for the HHNK Water Portrait
Water is all around us. But what does it mean to you? Maybe it’s the lively pond you walk past every day, the levee that protects your neighbourhood from flooding, or perhaps the effects of drought and flooding that you’re seeing more and more often. For HHNK’s “Water Portrait” project, we’re looking for participants who can use photos to show the role water plays in their daily lives and surroundings.
Your Story About Water
The Netherlands and water are inextricably linked. Water provides beautiful places to live, work, and enjoy leisure activities, but it also presents challenges. Think of drought, heavy rainfall, water safety, and water quality.
Through HHNK’s “Water Portrait,” we show how people experience water in their daily lives. The photos and stories offer a glimpse into the various ways water is present in our region.
What are you going to do?
As a participant, you’ll first take a workshop led by a professional photographer. Afterward, you’ll set out to explore your own surroundings. You’ll take photos of places, situations, or moments that you think show what water means to your neighbourhood and daily life. Together with your personal story, these photos will contribute to HHNK’s Water Portrait. These stories and images will be featured in an exhibition. No photography experience is necessary. All you need is a curious eye and an interest in your surroundings.
What do you get in return?
- A photography workshop led by a professional photographer
- Your photos and story in the “Water Portrait of Hollands Noorderkwartier” exhibition
- A VVV gift certificate worth €50
- Travel expense reimbursement of up to €30
Exhibition on the water board elections
The HHNK Water Portrait will be featured in an exhibition leading up to the water board elections on March 17, 2027. Through this exhibition, we’ll show the role water plays in the daily lives of people in the Netherlands and why water management is important to all of us.
