Information and participation

The Durgerdammerdijk is characterized by its narrow appearance with a walking/cycling path on the crest of the dike. In the center of Durgerdam, there is a sidewalk along the road and a footpath on the outside of the dike. The road is located at the foot of the dike. From the crest of the dike, on the west side of the module outside the dike, there is a view of the Amsterdam skyline on the other side of the IJ, with IJburg in particular being close by. In this module, the foreland of the IJdoorn polder is at its widest, with the lighthouse island behind the polder. The lighthouse island serves as a clearly recognizable landmark, especially from the water.

Durgerdam is located inside the dike, with a dense ribbon of buildings directly on the Markermeerdijk. The little church of Durgerdam is recognizable from afar, centrally located in the ribbon on the outside of the dike, close to the marina. The houses in Durgerdam offer a full view of the IJmeer, the marina, and the (extensions of) the IJdoorn polder. The village is also recognizable from the water and is a protected village view. The road here is located on the dike. The entire dike is a provincial monument.

At the beginning of 2019, after an intensive participation process, the Integral Spatial programme (IRP) was signed by the board of HHNK, the Province of North Holland, the municipality of Amsterdam, the Central Village Council Landelijk Noord, and the Village Council Durgerdam. The IRP is a preliminary design. This document sets out the principles for the further development of formal plans for dyke reinforcement and the design of public spaces. These include principles and preferred directions; some of the preconditions are laid down in bandwidths. The Integral Spatial programme as the basis for the formal plans.

In 2019 and 2020, a lot of (calculations) work was done behind the scenes and discussed with the technical group, village council, and public space working group. At the end of 2020, the deformation working group joined. The process will continue in 2021.
