Eline Smits
The linocut depicts 'Waterberging de Uitgang' (Water Storage the Exit), with the 'Nieuw Leven' (New Life) windmill in the background. This location is situated between the Hensbroek and Wogmeer polders. When creating this linocut, it was important to emphasize the vastness and differences in elevation that are so characteristic of the North Holland polder landscape.
The vastness of the landscape is clearly evident in the wide landscape depicted. Furthermore, the differences in elevation are visible due to the water storage area surrounded by a (higher) dike slope.
I chose this place because I grew up nearby. It is an area where I often went walking, swimming, and boating. For me, it has always been a beautiful piece of landscape, rich in unusual birds and fish.
