Guest lectures

Who better to talk about water than someone who works with it every day? Water experts from the water board are raising water awareness among pupils in North Holland with the themes of 'clean and healthy water' and 'climate'. There are lessons for grades 6, 7, and 8 of elementary school and for grades 1 and 2 of secondary school. Each lesson lasts one hour and is aligned with core educational objectives. Get your students excited about water issues and book a free guest lesson now!

Two themes

There are two guest lectures, each with its own theme:

Climate

What is NAP? Do you live below sea level? The climate is changing, it is raining harder and longer, where should that water go? High water levels or low water levels; what is best for farmers, nature, and the city? What happens when a dike breaks? Who works on the dikes and why? What would you take with you if you had to evacuate? The ground is sinking, sea levels are rising; what does water safety mean in the future?

Clean and healthy water

That smells awful.

Clean and healthy water in ditches: why is that important? What happens to your poop and pee when you flush the toilet? What is a sewage treatment plant? How much water do you use in a day? Healthy water makes an area attractive to live in or visit for recreation. Good water quality is important for things like producing drinking water, water recreation, and agriculture. How do we keep the ditches clean? What plants and animals live in the ditch?
