New construction and enlargement of De Hoelm pumping station.

What will happen?

Through periodic maintenance in the pumping station program, we ensure that the existing pumping stations and level regulating dams remain in good condition. In this way the deployability of these crucial objects in water management is maximized and failures are limited. Three projects were selected from the Pumping Station Program: De Hoelm, De Vurige Staart and Marken. When there is major maintenance on an object, the existing pumping stations and dams take an extra step so that the protection against flooding is further increased. In this way we strengthen the water system and keep costs down.

Where does the project take place?

Two more projects fall under this collaboration.

  • Purmerend - enlargement of pumping station De Vurige Staart
  • Marken - level registration and area regulation (completed)
Locations cooperation Water Program 1.5 pumping stations program

When will the project take place and how long will it take?

The Hoelm pumping station serves the Hoelmerkoog polder. The pumping station building dates back to 1940. We have found that the pumping station has reached the end of its technical lifespan. It was therefore decided to replace the current pumping station with a new one. We are also replacing a number of weirs in the polder. These will be automated valve weirs. These will 'communicate' with the pumping station in an area control system about the local water levels, so that the water management in the area can be controlled more optimally. Finally, the pumping station will have a fish-friendly pumping installation and a fish passage.

Construction began in 2022 and a mobile grinding plant was deployed to temporarily take over the drainage. Construction is underway and is expected to be completed summer 2024.
