Green Energy Day on July 31
At HHNK, Green Energy Day falls on July 31 this year, putting us far ahead of the Netherlands as a whole.
On Green Energy Day, all the sustainable energy we produce in the Netherlands runs out. At least, if we were to use it all consecutively. This year, that falls on March 30, six days later than in 2025. Midway through this century, Green Energy Day would fall on December 31. By then, the Netherlands will be 100% energy neutral.
Independence Day
When do we actually have our 'Independence Day', as Green Energy Day is also known? With the current generation of sustainable energy, HHNK can last 212 days. Our Green Energy Day falls on July 31st this year. In 2035, we aim to reach December 31st. The solar park we are going to build in Den Helder accounts for 31 days. With the construction of the central sludge digestion plant in Geestmerambacht, another 40 days will be added. If a wind turbine is added there as well, we will be energy neutral with 82 extra days. This puts us far ahead of the Dutch average.
