Ground investigation at the dike in Oudendijk and Schardam
What will happen?
We have a public duty to ensure water safety in our area. To fulfill this task, we are conducting a monitoring study on several levees. The purpose of the research is to gather more information about the structure, subsoil and strength of the dike. This is done in various ways: by drilling in and near the dike, taking soil samples and installing monitoring wells to measure the groundwater level in the dike. The company Fugro is a specialist in the field of soil research and is carrying out this research for us.
Where does the project take place?
Hand drilling and mechanical drilling will take place along up- and downstream of the Oudendijk (see the red line in the figure below) and Schardam buoy embankments.

What do you notice?
The hand drilling will take place with a hand auger. Mechanical drilling will take place with a survey vehicle.
Below is an example of a research vehicle that will be used, which you may encounter.

The survey will take place both on and off the dike.
You may be asked by the executing party not to place vehicles along the road on the embankment on specific days. In order for the survey to run as smoothly as possible, we would like to kindly ask you to cooperate.
Ground investigation on the embankment will be carried out with minimal traffic measures and efforts will be made to ensure the passage of the roadway at all times. Therefore, work will be carried out with small equipment. Our basic principle is that you will experience as little disruption as possible from the work.
To announce the work, traffic signs will be placed in the project area, and the temporary work site will be demarcated with pylons.
When will the project take place and how long will it take?
The investigation will start on Monday, September 15 (week 38) and will take about two weeks. Interested parties have already been informed.
Who do we work with?
The work is being carried out by geotechnical survey company Fugro.
