Soil investigation on the dike in Oudendijk and Schardam

What's going to happen?

We have a public duty to ensure water safety in our area. In order to fulfill this duty, we are conducting a monitoring study on various dikes. The purpose of the study is to gather more information about the structure, subsoil, and strength of the dike. This is done in various ways: by drilling in and near the dike, taking soil samples, and installing monitoring wells to measure the groundwater level in the dike.

The soil investigation has now been completed, and monitoring of the observation wells is currently underway. In addition, a specialized diving team has conducted an inspection of the riverbanks.

Where is the project taking place?

The bank inspection was conducted from the water along the Dorpsweg in Oudendijk. Hand drilling and mechanical drilling were carried out on and along the floodgate embankments in Oudendijk (see the red line in the figure below) and Schardam.

What do you notice?

At this time, you won’t notice any impact from the monitoring; the monitoring wells have already been installed in the dike and do not cause any disruption to traffic.

When will the project take place and how long will it last?

Monitoring will continue until the summer; the results of the monitoring and the soil investigation will then be used to calculate the stability of the dike.

Who do we work with?

The work will be carried out by Arcadis.
