Soil investigation west side of Wieringermeer barrier

What's going to happen?

For the safety of the Wieringermeer flood defense, soil investigations are being carried out and surveying measurements are being taken. 

The purpose of the soil investigation is to gain more insight into the structure, subsoil, and strength of the dike. This is done by, among other things:

• carrying out drilling and probing on and next to the dike;
• taking soil samples;
• installing monitoring wells to measure the groundwater level;
• performing surveying cross-section measurements.

The specialized company Fugro is carrying out this work on behalf of HHNK. Prior to the fieldwork, the measurement locations are marked with wooden posts in a striking color.

Where is the project taking place?

This concerns sections of the dike on the west side of the Wieringermeerpolder, along the Waardweg, Groetweg, and Alkmaarseweg. 

When will the project take place and how long will it last?

The land surveys will start on Monday, February 9 (week 7). The soil investigation will be carried out in February and March.
