Snevert Pumping Station Inlet
What's going on?
The Snevert pumping station in Schagen was relocated to Lutjewallerweg in Schagen a few years ago. The intake for this pumping station is still located on Snevert. A new intake has now been installed next to the pumping station on Lutjewallerweg.
We’re doing this work because the old inlet is no longer adequate. This makes it a good time to install a new inlet right next to the pumping station. The new inlet has a larger diameter and discharges into a wider ditch. This immediately provides greater capacity for draining water. These days, we occasionally experience very heavy rainfall. With this new inlet, we’ll be better prepared for that.
Who do we work with?
The project is being carried out by VOPO, a contractor specializing in pumping technology. The excavation work is being done by Van der Meer, an earthmoving company.
Where is the project taking place?
The project is taking place on Lutjewallerweg in Schagen. In order to install the inlet, the road must be excavated. For this reason, we are setting up a detour route for through traffic. Local traffic may still use Lutjewallerweg, in consultation with the contractor. This will ensure that homes and farmland remain accessible.
When will the project take place and how long will it last?
Work began on August 10 and is expected to continue through the end of September. There may be some delays due to unforeseen circumstances. Once we’re finished, the street will be paved with concrete pavers. We’re doing this because the soil we’re replacing will settle slightly. We call this “settlement.” After a one-year settlement period, the road will be repaved.
Update: September 22
Over the past few weeks, the new intake and the foundation have been installed. The trench in which the intake is located has been backfilled with soil. The outlet structure on the polder side is in place underwater, and the protective conduit for the cables under the road has also been installed.
This week (week 39), the temporary construction pits will be removed and the road will be paved with cobblestones. Starting Saturday, September 26, Lutjewallerweg will be open again to all traffic.
There are still some temporary road closures
The work isn’t quite finished yet. For example, cables still need to be run through the casing pipe. The actuator also still needs to be installed on the gate valve. And after that, the system must be commissioned. After that, the excavated soil will be removed and the construction site will be cleaned up. This will take place along the road. For the safety of our workers, part of the road may be temporarily closed off. This will be marked with signs and warning labels, and will always take place during the day. Traffic can still pass through normally.
