Invasive alien species
We are increasingly encountering exotic (aquatic) plants. These are plants that do not occur naturally in our country and that feel very much at home in our environment. One example is the giant hogweed. Exotic plants grow quickly and displace 'native' vegetation, which is bad for biodiversity. Because they can grow explosively, they can also obstruct water supply and drainage. We regularly remove these plants from the ditches to prevent them from spreading further. You can help us by not putting plants from your pond or aquarium into the ditch.
