Quay improvement around Schagen
We ensure safe dikes in our management area (North Holland north of the North Sea Canal). We regularly check the safety of the dikes. Various storage dikes between Oudesluis and Alkmaar, in the Zijpe and along the North Holland Canal, have been rejected and need to be improved. We ensure that the dikes will again meet the safety requirements for the coming years.
Where is the project taking place?
The quays to be reinforced are scattered throughout the area. At Oudesluis, land reclamation is taking place and revetment is being replaced on Zijper Eilandt and along the extension of Sportlaan towards the railway line. Near Krabbendam, several hundred meters of land reclamation is also being carried out and the quay and revetment are being improved and/or renewed.
What's going to happen?
The quays no longer meet the required height and strength standards and therefore need to be raised, sometimes in combination with widening and flattening the slopes and/or renewing the revetment along the water. This will be done by adding extra soil.
Who do we work with?
HHNK is the client for this dike improvement project. We are working together with contractor AWgroep from Hillegom.
When will the project take place and how long will it last?
The implementation started in early February and will be completed by July 1 at the latest, depending on weather conditions. Those directly involved, owners, and users have been (or will be) contacted.
