HHNK's New Waterbed Policy Available for Public Review

On September 1, our Executive Board adopted the draft Waterbed Policy and released it for public comment. You can download the document below and submit any comments via the website by October 15. The Waterbed Policy addresses, among other things, how HHNK conducts dredging operations. It also provides guidance on third-party activities involving the waterbed.

The new waterbed policy aligns with amended and updated legislation and policy. This brings it more in line with the “ Omgevingswet ” and the Water Framework Directive. Because the policy is still open for public review, it is referred to as the draft Waterbed Policy. The draft Waterbed Policy builds upon the current adopted policy, supplemented with a number of new insights. The changes relate, among other things, to dredging for water quality, climate adaptation, and peat meadow areas. The draft policy also outlines how the new policy can be incorporated into the 2028 Water Board Ordinance by 2027. Following the six-week public comment period, the Waterbed Policy will be submitted to the water board’s general board for a decision. The policy is expected to be placed on the agenda in December 2026.
